在綠能環保的全球潮流之下，各汽車品牌對於Hybrid油電複合動力車款可說是發興未艾，而2013年的德國法蘭克福車展當中，BMW則是以X5 eDrive概念車，宣告這款當家的LSUV也即將踏上油電化之路；雖說當時BMW並未透漏何時會將概念付諸量產上市，不過根據近日所掌握的訊息顯示，原廠已經決定讓X5 eDrive概念車在2014年邁入量產，並以X5 xDrive40e之名發表上市。
