1949年7月3日：出生於北京，父親為中共已故元老薄一波。

1980年10月：加入中共。

1984年：任中共遼寧省金縣縣委副書記。

1993年：任遼寧省大連市市長。

1999年9月：任中共遼寧省委常委、大連市市委書記。

2001年2月：任遼寧省省長。

2004年2月：任國務院商務部部長。

2007年10月：當選中共中央政治局委員。

2007年11月：任中共重慶市委書記。

2012年

2月6日：時任重慶副市長王立軍，進入美國駐成都總領事館尋求庇護。

3月15日：被免去重慶市委書記職務。

4月10日：被停止中共中央政治局委員和中央委員職務，由中共中央紀律檢查委員會立案調查。

9月28日：中共中央政治局決定開除薄熙來黨籍和公職，並移交司法機關處理。

2013年

7月25日：山東省濟南市中級人民法院，以涉嫌受賄、貪污和濫用職權等三項罪名起訴薄熙來。

8月22日至26日：濟南中級法院開庭審理薄熙來案。

9月22日：濟南中院判處薄熙來無期徒刑。
