在2008-2009年間發生的全球金融海嘯與不景氣中，GM集團因為中國市場銷售表現的支撐，才免於像是CHRYSLER Group被FIAT併購之狀況，當然也進一步強化了深耕中國汽車市場的新世代戰略，在不久前上海通用也首度動工興建CADILLAC專用生產線與研發技術中心，除了現有唯一XTS國產化豪華房車，以及將來可望導入投產的ATS、CTS與SRX新世代等車系，其實針對潛力無窮的中國高級車壇，傳聞已久但一直未具體實現的旗艦房車計畫，將可望也藉由上海通用大舉投資而真正落實。
