「打擊教科書」寫下新篇章！洛磯隊Todd Helton擊出生涯第2500支安打，史上第96人。隊友Michael Cuddyer開轟、單場4支4，以7比4擊敗紅人隊，洛磯隊雙喜臨門。

兩天前，Helton單場雙響砲，生涯安打來到2499支，但三連戰第二場，4打數無功而返。第三戰，Helton第一打席飛球出局、第二打席被三振、第三打席保送，終於在第四打席達標。

「每過一次打擊機會，我就覺得越來越漫長了，」Helton說，「我變得有點在意，因為我真的很希望，能在主場球迷面前，達成這項紀錄。」

歷史性的一刻出現在第7局，當時紅人隊投手是Curtis Partch。Helton纏鬥到兩好三壞後，相中一記96英里(約154.5公里)的火球，敲出左邊方向飛球，就掉在邊線內，形成安打。

這種「反向安打」，正是Helton的註冊商標。「兩好三壞滿球數，還能打出靠近邊線的安打，這就是我能在大聯盟生存這麼久的原因。」Helton說，「兩好球後擊出反向安打，這是我的維生武器，用這種方式達成2500安，實在很對味。」

值得一提的是，Helton不只是敲出安打，更把生涯第2500安「跑」成二壘安打。紅人隊很快把球傳到二壘，但Helton快了那麼一點，這是他生涯第584支二壘安打。

現場30594位球迷起立為Helton鼓掌，這位強打者脫帽回禮。那個半局攻守交替時，大螢幕播放Helton的精采回顧。

Helton在1997年出道，並自隔年起，連10年打擊率3成以上。2000年，Helton拿到打擊率、打點、安打「另類三冠王」，今年打擊率0.252，敲出11轟。目前他生涯打擊率0.317，擊出365支全壘打。
