【自強號出軌】晚40秒進隧道　或可避過一劫

【李姿慧／台北報導】台鐵中午表示，經清查，枋山2號隧道和3號隧道間約15K+550處設有遠端監控系統，能監控附近約100公尺範圍的軌道和邊坡情況，距出事的枋山2號隧道15K+400處雖僅50公尺，卻正好落在監控死角。  

台鐵稱，由於當時列車正準備直線進入隧道，土石流崩落，已煞車不及，即使有監控系統，遇到瞬間坍方，恐也無法阻止憾事發生；當時列車時速約90公里，若晚個40秒再進入枋山2號隧道，駕駛即可目視並緊急剎車，有機會逃過一劫。
